Women's Soccer Falls at No. 2 Columbus State

COLUMBUS, Ga. – The Clayton State women's soccer team fell to the No. 2 Columbus State Cougars 4-1 Saturday afternoon in a Peach Belt Conference matchup.

With the loss, the Lakers fall to fifth in the conference standings while Columbus State takes sole possession of first in the league. 

The Cougars struck early in the game as Emma Beddow scored her league-leading ninth goal in the 10th minute. CSU then built a 2-0 lead in the 20th minute. 

At the halftime break, Columbus outshout Clayton State 16-3. 

The Cougars entered the game as the second-ranked team in the country. This is the second time this season the Lakers have played a top-two team as they hosted Flagler on Sept. 18 when the Saints were the top-ranked team. 

Columbus then put the game out of reach in the 68th minute before Marie Devillers scored in the 75th minute to cut the deficit to two. The Cougars added a goal late in the 85th minute to close out the match. 

Valentina Bonaiuto made seven saves. 

COMING UP:
- The Lakers close out their road schedule for the season on Wednesday with a trip to Georgia College.
