Men’s and Women’s Basketball To Play At Lander Saturday

MORROW, Ga. – The Clayton State men’s and women’s basketball teams are scheduled to play at Lander University Saturday afternoon for a Peach Belt Conference matchup. 

The women will play at 1:30 p.m. while the men are scheduled for a 3:30 p.m. tip.

For fans traveling to the game, click here for Lander’s basketball attendance protocols. General admission is on a first-come, first-serve basis and capacity is reduced to 20%, equaling 300 spectators. 

Women's Game

The Lander women enter Saturday’s game ranked No. 13 in Division II and boast a 3-0 record with wins over Augusta, Belmont Abbey and Georgia Southwestern. The game against Ga. Southwestern was the opening PBC game for both teams as Lander went on to win 57-50, using an 8-0 run to close out the game. 

Last season, the Bearcats claimed the PBC Regular Season and Tournament Championships. 

Clayton State has only played one game this season, winning 82-58 over conference foe UNC Pembroke on Wednesday. Trailing by three points after the first quarter, the Lakers outscored the Braves 32-10 in the second frame to run away with the win. Timi'a Swanson led all scorers with 21 points. 

The Lakers hold a 20-19 advantage in the series history but have lost the last 10 games. The biggest matchup in the series happened during the 2010-11 season when No. 2 Clayton State defeated No. 1 Lander 83-81 in Morrow. The Lakers would go on to claim the school’s only National Championship that season.

Men's Game

The Lander men have played five games this season, winning two and dropping their only conference game to Georgia Southwestern. Last season, Lander claimed the PBC Tournament Championship. 

Clayton State has played once this season, losing to No. 22 UNC Pembroke 93-72 Wednesday afternoon. Newcomers Daniel Melvin and Justin Figueroa led the way for the Lakers, scoring 13 points apiece. 

The Lakers have dropped the last two games against Lander but hold a 17-14 advantage in the overall series.
