MORROW, Ga. – Seeking to strengthen a bid for a spot in the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional and punch their ticket to the Peach Belt Conference Tournament Championship Game, Clayton State (20-9, 15-5 PBC) women's basketball takes on two-time defending champion No. 16/18 North Georgia (25-4, 17-3 PBC) in the semifinals on Saturday, March 7.

Â
Overall Series History Against No. 16/18 North Georgia
Clayton StateÂ
holds a 26-19 advantage in an all-time series that dates back to the first season of the program. That first meeting took place on January 29, 1992. After going 6-11 over the first 17 outings, the Lakers took control of the series, going 20-3 from February 22, 2006 through February 6, 2017. That stretch included 13 straight wins from January 23, 2008 through March 10, 2013.
Â
More recently Clayton State held a four game winning streak including that February 6, 2017 meeting that resulted in a 58-57 victory. That streak was snapped by North Georgia on January 29, 2018 with a 70-65 decision at The Loch and had grown to a Nighthawk series best six straight wins following last year's 70-60 win in the Peach Belt Conference Tournament Semifinals in Augusta, Georgia on March 9, 2019 and a narrow 68-60 victory in Dahlonega, Georgia on January 25, 2020.
Â
Just last week, however, the Lakers snapped that stretch with a 73-64 victory over a UNG squad that was ranked No. 13/17 in the country.
Â
Peach Belt Conference Tournament History Against No. 16/18 North Georgia
It is a fairly straightforward postseason history between North Georgia and Clayton State. Including both Peach Belt Conference action and NCAA Tournament play the teams have just twice – the first of which happened to be for a championship.
Â
That game came on March 10, 2013 in Columbus, Georgia when the teams met in the Peach Belt Conference Championship. That day the Lakers delivered a convincing 81-54 victory over the then Saints to win their fourth and most recent PBC Tournament title.
Â
Most recently the teams met in the semifinals last year on March 9 in Augusta, Georgia. The Nighthawks would notch a 70-60 victory in that one to even the postseason series at 1-1.
Â
Peach Belt Conference Tournament History
Overall, the Lakers have made 21 appearances in the PBC Tournament dating to their first year of eligibility in 1997-98, a span which includes each of the past 19 years. Over that time they have compiled a 25-16 (.610) record and reached the semifinals 14 times.
Â
Of those trips to the semis, five have resulted in a spot in the championship game – where they have been dominant, winning four titles. Those came in 2008, 2007, 2010 and 2013.
