MORROW, Ga. – Clayton State (17-9, 13-5 PBC) women's basketball puts their eight game winning streak on the line as they take one of their longest trips of the season as they head to Flagler (6-18, 4-14 PBC) on Wednesday, February 26. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m. in St. Augustine, Florida.
Â
Entering the final week of the regular season, the Lakers hold down the No. 3 spot in the Peach Belt Conference and are guaranteed a home quarterfinal on Wednesday, March 4. Whether that will be hosting the No. 5 or No. 6 seed will be determined over their final two games.
Â
They currently hold a one game lead over Columbus State, which has a more favorable schedule as they host Georgia Southwestern (5-13 PBC) and travel to Young Harris (9-9 PBC) to close out the regular season. In contrast, following their game on the road against Flagler, Clayton State will host No. 13/17 North Georgia on Senior Day. Should they win that one and tie with the Cougars, they would win the tie-break by virtue of the win over UNG, something Columbus was unable to accomplish this season.
Â
The Lakers
lead the all-time series 12-2, dating back to the first meeting on November 17, 2006. They won the first five meetings, and following a 74-63 win by FC on January 4, 2014, won the next three.
Â
Those included a 90-71 home victory on January 17, 2015, a 70-58 decision on January 16, 2016 in St. Augustine, Florida and a 70-62 decision at The Loch on January 16, 2017. The Saints snapped that streak with a 97-91 double-overtime win at The Loch on December 2, 2017 but Clayton State answered with a thrilling 57-56 win in St. Augustine on February 10, 2018.
Â
Overtime games have become the norm as the Lakers earned that 87-76 decision on December 1, 2018, however the most next meeting was anything but with a commanding 76-47 victory on February 16, 2019 at The Loch. Most recently Clayton State pulled out a nail-biter, 82-80, on January 29, 2020 in Morrow.
