Battle For Third Place in PBC Up Next as Clayton State Travels to Rival Columbus State

MORROW, Ga. – Clayton State (15-9, 11-5 PBC) women's basketball travels to rival Columbus State (16-6, 11-5 PBC) in a battle for the third spot in the Peach Belt Conference Wednesday, February 19. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m. in Columbus, Georgia.

The teams come in deadlocked at 11-5 apiece in league play and the game will have a large impact on where both will land in terms of PBC positioning. With North Georgia at 14-2, it is less than likely either will catch the Nighthawks and both have at least a two game lead over Young Harris and USC Aiken, both of whom are 9-7.

Clayton State trails the all-time series 32-23 dating back to the first meeting on November 25, 1995. With 55 meetings, it is the second most prevalent series in program history, trailing only the 58 games against Georgia College.

The Cougars won 18 of the first 20 meetings before Clayton State responded by taking 20 of the next 22. Starting on March 8, 2014, however, Columbus began a dominant 10 game win streak, including 76-71 overtime decision on February 2, 2019 in Columbus. That stretch would finally end on March 1, 2019, however, as the Lakers delivered a 93-85 victory at The Loch, where they are 12-15 in the series. Most recently the Cougars posted an 87-66 decision there on January 22, 2020.

Coverage of the game will be available on live stats and live video on www.ClaytonStateSports.com.
