Clayton State Rides Five Game Win Streak Into Homecoming Meeting With Francis Marion

MORROW, Ga. – In a season of peaks and valleys, Clayton State (14-9, 10-5 PBC) women's basketball looks to continue riding a peak that has them on a season-high five game win streak as they host Francis Marion (11-10, 7-8 PBC) on homecoming on Saturday, February 15. Tip-off is set for a special time of 3 p.m. at the Loch.

Entering the weekend they sit tied for third in the Peach Belt Conference standings with Columbus State and are looking to fend off USC Aiken who is directly behind them at 9-6. The latter holds extra meaning as it could mean the difference between hosting a PBC Quarterfinal or going on the road with the season on the line. Both of those teams are on the schedule to start a three game road trip next week.

The Lakers lead the all-time series 25-14 dating back to the first meeting on January 10, 1998. FMU notched an 86-61 victory that day as part of a six game win streak and 10 of the first 12 outings through March 2, 2004.

Since then Clayton State has won 23 of the last 27, including 13 straight from February 28, 2009 through January 7, 2017. Overall, they have defeated a ranked Patriots squad six times, headlined by an 86-60 decision over the No. 7 ranked team to start the last win streak.

On January 6, 2018, FMU snapped that streak with a 74-66 victory in Florence, South Carolina before the Lakers began a new one with a 68-63 decision at The Loch on February 3 later that year. They claimed an 80-60 victory in Morrow on January 12, 2019 and made it three in a row with an 80-72 decision on February 9, 2019. Most recently the Patriots snapped that streak with an 81-76 victory at FMU on January 18 of this year.

While they are just 10-8 on the road in the series, they are a stellar 13-3 at home, having won the last eight there dating to an 84-76 loss on January 26, 2008.

Coverage of the game will be available only on live stats on www.ClaytonStateSports.com. Live video will not be available due to infrastructure issues with the broadcast.
