Boxscore GREENWOOD, S.C. – A pair of 42 point halves and a sustained offensive and defensive effort were too much for Clayton State (9-7, 5-3 PBC) to overcome as Peach Belt Conference leading Lander (13-3, 8-0 PBC) notched an 84-62 decision in an NCAA Division II women's basketball game on Monday, January 20.

The teams would battle back-and-forth over the first part of the opening quarter with Clayton State taking a 7-6 lead two minutes in and LU following with a 13-7 advantage with a 7-0 run in the next two minutes.
Â
With the score at 17-12 with 5:24 on the clock, the Bearcats separated themselves with another impressive burst, this time 20-7 spanning the quarter break and ending up 37-19 at the 6:18 mark of the second period. The Lakers would eventually get within 13 at 40-27 before Lander closed the half with a 42-29 advantage.
Â
Back-to-back buckets by Clayton State to open the third quarter would narrow the gap to 44-33 but that margin would balloon to 27 points as LU methodically built out their lead to 70-43 by the 9:10 mark of the fourth period. The Lakers would mount a 10-1 run to pull back to within 18 at 71-53 with 6:27 remaining but that would be as close as they would get as the Bearcats closed out the 84-62 victory.
Â
Tabitha Dailey led Lander with a game-high 22 points while Makaila Cange registered a double-double of 11 points and 13 boards, seven offensive, to go with four assists. Jessica Harris had 15 points and dished out six assists and Zamiya Passmore finished with 15 points, four rebounds and a pair of steals.
Â
Having concluded their three game road trip, the Lakers return home to face rival Columbus State on Wednesday, January 22 on Georgia's Own Credit Union Night. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m. at The Loch.
