AUGUSTA, Ga. – For the first time since the 2016-17 season, Clayton State women's basketball has earned a Peach Belt Conference Player of the Week with senior guard
Taneria Wilson (Fort Pierce, Fla.) picking up the honor following a phenomenal week as announced by the league on Monday, January 20.
Â
Wilson had a week for the ages as she averaged 27.0 points, 8.0 steals, 4.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists while shooting .541 (20-of-37) from the field and 6-of-14 (.429) beyond the arc.
Â
She opened the week at Georgia Southwestern (1/15) by scoring 20 points to go with six steals, four rebounds and three assists in 32 minutes. That performance led the Lakers to a 73-62 victory.
Â
Wilson would perform at a near record level in the week's finale at Francis Marion (1/18). In 44 minutes she would drop 34 points on 12-of-19 shooting (4-of-7 from three-point range) and come away with a program record tying 10 steals to go with four assists and five rebounds.
Â
The 10 steals equaled the team record set during the 1998-99 season by Misty Amerson while her 34 points was just one shy of matching the program record of 35 points set by Trina Patterson on March 2005 against Columbus State.
Â
On the year she is now averaging 15.8 points, 3.8 steals, 3.7 assists and 4.3 rebounds in 15 games and starts. She is currently leading the Peach Belt Conference in steals per game and is fourth in both points per game and assists per game.

CLAYTON STATE WOMEN'S BASKETBALL PBC PLAYER OF THE WEEK HISTORY
Since gaining provisional membership in the Peach Belt in 1995-96 and full-time membership in 1997-98, the Lakers have had a total of 24 Player of the Week selections among just 12 players. Most recently, Benford was the last to be so honored as she earned her second award on November 28, 2016.
Â
All-time, Drameka Griggs and Joya Collier hold the program record with four overall selections. Griggs earned all four of hers during the 2012-13 season (12/4, 1/7, 1/22, 2/18) while Collier earned two in 1998-99 (12/14, 1/18) and two in 1999-2000 (1/10, 2/21). The latter was also the first Clayton State women's basketball player to earn the honor.
Â
Overall, the Lakers have had at least one player selected as Player of the Week in 14 of their 23 seasons as a full-time member of the league. Seven of those have seen multiple selections.
Â
Following their Martin Luther King, Jr. Day matinee at Lander, Clayton State will return home to face rival Columbus State on Wednesday, January 22. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m. at The Loch.
