MORROW, Ga. – Having added an impressive sprinter already, Clayton State women's track & field boosted the field side of the program as head coach Mike Mead has announced the addition of thrower Shania Riles (Columbus, Ga.) to the 2019-20 signing class.

Riles comes to Morrow following a strong career at Carver High School, located just over an hour away in Columbus, Georgia.
 
Having burst onto the scene as a junior, she recorded 11 top five finishes, including second place in the discus (35.05m) and fourth in the shotput (10.40m) at the Georgia High School Association (GHSA) Region 1-AAAA Championships. That would be followed with a sixth place outing in the discus at the GHSA 4A State Championships with a mark of 34.44-meters.
 
Additionally, Riles was fourth in the discus (35.66m) and sixth in the shot (10.60m) at the GHSA AAAA Sectional Championships. Prior to that she notched three first place finishes at a pair of Muscogee County School District Meets, recording marks of 10.70- and 11.20-meters in the shot and 35.00-meters in the discus. That came along with a runner-up outing in the latter at 34.90-meters.
 
As a senior this past season she produced an even more impressive campaign. She would finish her high school career with a third place finish in the shot put (12.19m) at the GHSA 4A State Championships. That followed GHSA Region 1-AAAA Championships in both the shot (11.28m) and discus (34.80m).
 
Those would be far from Riles' only top finishes on the year as she swept both the shot and discus at a pair of MCSD meets. In so doing, she recorded marks of 10.80- and 10.97-meters in the shot put and 32.10- and 34.75-meters in the discus.
 
A multi-sport athlete, she also was a member of CHS' volleyball program and helped lead the Tigers to the GHSA 4A State Championship in basketball in 2018-19, finishing with a perfect 33-0 record. That team, as well as the 29-2 squad from 2017-18, both won 4A Region Championships.
 
In the classroom, Riles has also been among the best as she has earned multiple spots on the A/B Honor Roll as well as the Georgia Certificate of Merit. Sponsored by the University of Georgia, the latter recognizes the top five-percent of students in the junior class.
