HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. – Clayton State men's golf closed out the 2018-19 campaign with a 16-of-20 finish at the 2019 NCAA Division II South/Southeast Regional on Saturday, May 11 after shooting a 297-312-309-918 over three days and 54 holes.
Taking on the best teams in the country, senior
Andres Caballero (Mexico City, Mexico) tied for 46
th out of 108 golfers as he shot a 71-77-80-228 while freshman
Javier Gonzalez (San Jose del Cabo, Mexico) is tied for 56
th at 71-80-78-229.
Fellow freshman
Augusto Oliva (Buenos Aires, Argentina) finished tied with his teammate in 56
th with rounds of 78-76-75-229 and junior
Nick Woof (Leighton Buzzard, England) tied for 91
st (77-79-84-240). Sophomore
Raul Carbonell (Panama City, Panama) closed out the Lakers five with a 79-91-76-246.
Defending national champion No. 2 Lynn won the regional with a score of 869, holding off No. 3 West Florida (878), No. 1 Barry (883), No. 8 Florida Southern (894) and USC Aiken (895) and No. 10 Lincoln Memorial (895). No. 7 Saint Leo was the final team to earn a berth to the national championships as they recorded a score of 901.
Clayton State closes out an impressive 2018-19 campaign that saw them deliver five top five performances and make their eighth NCAA Division II Championships as a team and the first since the 2013-14 season.
