AUGUSTA, Ga. – Senior
Destiny Johnson (New Iberia, La.) has been named Peach Belt Conference Women's Field Athlete of the Week for the first time in her career and becomes the third such selection this season for Clayton State women's track & as announced by the league on Tuesday, April 9.
Â
Competing at the Gulf South/Peach Belt Challenge (4/6), Johnson saw action three events, excelling in two of them, in the continuation of an impressive senior campaign.
Â
Johnson won the high jump out of 14 competitors and, more importantly, did so with a height of 1.67-meters to notch an NCAA Provisional mark. That is right at the qualifying standard and ties for the 18th best height in Division II this year.
Â
She would also go on to add a 3-of-8 outing in the triple jump with a distance of 10.93-meters and was 14-of-17 in the long jump (4.79m).
Â
Overall, Clayton State has collected 11 such field honors spread across five different individuals. Johnson's selection makes for a program record-tying three awards this year with the first two being earned by freshman
Kiara Green (Ty, Ty, Ga.). That equals the mark from the 2014 campaign when Brianna Heilsnis won two and
Jessica Matthews claimed the other.
