AUGUSTA, Ga. – For the second time this season Clayton State women's track & field senior
Destiny Johnson (New Iberia, La.) has been named Peach Belt Conference Women's Field Athlete of the Week and her selection breaks the program record for a season as announced by the league on Tuesday, April 30.
Â
The prolific senior made the most of her one opportunity last week at the Don McGarey Invitational (4/27) as she competed in the high jump.
Â
Looking to earn a trip to the NCAA Division II National Championships she delivered her second provisional height this month as she cleared the bar at a personal-best 1.68-meters.
Â
That bettered both her previous PR and the current provisional threshold of 1.67-meters and gave her a 3-of-11 finish. She had set the earlier mark at the Gulf South/Peach Belt Challenge on April 6. Additionally she was the top DII finisher in the event behind DI competitors from Kennesaw and Jacksonville.
Â
Overall, Clayton State has collected 12 such field honors spread across five different individuals. Johnson's selection makes for a program record four awards this year with the first two being earned by freshman
Kiara Green (Ty, Ty, Ga.) and Johnson following on April 9.
Â
That bests the mark from the 2014 campaign when Brianna Heilsnis won two and
Jessica Matthews claimed the other.
