ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – Entering the day in sixth place, Clayton State men's golf delivered the third best round of the day to close out the 2019 Peach Belt Conference Championship in fourth place out of nine teams on Sunday, April 21. As a team they shot a 297-303-287-887, finishing behind Flagler (864), No. 11 Young Harris (874) and Columbus State (879).
Senior
Andres Caballero (Mexico City, Mexico) and sophomore
Raul Carbonell (Panama City, Panama) tied for the third lowest round on the day with a 69 to finish tied for 21
st and 27
th, respectively. Caballero got progressively better, shooting a 79-76-69-224 while Carbonell finished with a 73-85-69.
Freshman
Augusto Oliva (Buenos Aires, Argentina) tied for 21
st with a 76-76-72-224 and junior
Nick Woof (Leighton Buzzard, England) and freshman
Javier Gonzalez (San Jose del Cabo, Mexico) each tied for 27
th out of the 49 person field. Woof finished with a 73-76-78-227 and Gonzalez shot a 75-75-77-227.
On the day, Clayton State shot a one-under par which trailed only Columbus State's seven-under and eventual champion Flagler's three-under. Additionally, their three day score of 887 topped No. 23 USC Aiken. The fourth place finish equals the program's best since a 4-of-12 outing four years ago at the 2015 PBC Championships.
The Lakers will now await word on an At-Large bid to the 2019 NCAA Division II Tournament. Selections for that field will be announced on
