Clayton State's Kincey Named PBC Player of the Week; Lakers Make History With Third Honor in 2018-19

AUGUSTA, Ga. – Junior guard Kyle Kincey (Tallahassee, Fla.) has been named Peach Belt Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week for the first time in his career following the announcement by the league on Monday, March 4.

His selection is the third of the season, marking the first time in program history that Clayton State men's basketball has had that many during one campaign. The previous high was two in the 1998-99 (Robert Conley, twice) and 2010-11 seasons (Timmy Downs, Brandon Robinson).

Kincey produced the best week of his career, averaging 24.5 points, 5.0 rebounds and 2.5 assists over the course of a pair of games. He also shot an impressive .548 from the field (17-of-31), .545 from beyond the arc (6-of-11) and .818 at the foul line (9-11).

Opening the week at Georgia Southwestern (2/27) he obliterated his career-high with 32 points as he went 11-of-19 from the field and 5-of-9 from three. He also added five boards, a pair of assists and a block. The field goals made and attempted and three-pointers also represented personal bests.

Kincey followed that with another strong game, this coming against rival Columbus State (3/2). In that one he recorded 17 points on 6-of-12 shooting to go with five more rebounds, three assists and a steal in 31 minutes.

On the season he averaged 10.8 points, 4.6 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.2 steals while shooting .432 from the field, .360 from three and .758 at the foul line.

He joins Aubrey McRae in earning the honor this season as the Laker senior became the first individual to collect back-to-back awards in program history on February 4 and February 11.

"Kyle played really well this past week," said head coach Jimmy Link. "I am proud to watch his growth and see him develop heading into his senior year!"

Overall, Clayton State has had 15 selections since Corey Johnson earned the award during the 1996-97 season, which was just the second year as a provisional member of the PBC.

Those selections have also been spread out among just 11 players in that 22-year span. Conley holds the all-time mark with three selections over the 1997-98 and 1998-99 seasons. Additionally, they have had at least one player chosen for the award in 11 of those seasons.
