ATLANTA, Ga. – Clayton State women's track & field and junior
Nia Elmore (Hinesville, Ga.) continued a tremendous outdoor campaign as both experienced great success on the final day of the Emory Invitational on Saturday, March 23. In a field featuring clubs from all three levels of the NCAA and NAIA, and from across the country, they earned an impressive 2-of-31 finish with 70 points.
Elmore led the way with her incredible 18
th program record as she notched a time of 12.13 in the finals of the 100-meters, easily surpassing her previous mark of 12.33 set on March 3, 2018.
That effort was good for a 6-of-45 finish and she also added a 4-of-69 outing in the 200-meters (25.60) and 6-of-26 performance in the 4x100-meters (48.25). The latter included sophomore
Chaviya Jackson (Albany, Ga.), junior
Jasmine Radford (Lawrenceville, Ga.) and sophomore
Corta'Nasha Mutcherson (Savannah, Ga.).
Those three individuals, along with freshman Asia Love (Riverdale, Ga.), would also deliver one of the top moments of the day as they combined for a 1-of-25 finish in the 4x400-meter relay (4:01.57). Each would also put up strong performances in their own events as well.
Jackson was 4-of-48 in the 400-meters (59.00) and 5-of-69 in the 200-meters (25.67) while Mutcherson finished second in the latter with a time of 58.49. Radford posted a 13-of-48 outing in the 400 (1:00.63) and Love was 26-of-59 in the 800-meters (2:28.39).
On the field side of things, freshman
Kiara Green (Ty Ty, Ga.) was impressive once again as she notched a 3-of-53 performance in the discus with a distance of 38.95-meters and was also 21-of-55 in the shotput (10.64m). The day also featured multiple heats of the 5,000-meters and would see freshman
Stephanie Escobar (Forest Park, Ga.) finish 4-of-17 in her's with a time of 20:50.57.
Senior
Destiny Johnson (New Iberia, La.) added a 9-of-37 outing in the triple jump with a mark of 10.57-meters and fellow senior
Carla Catala Martin (Barcelona, Spain) was 12-of-40 in the 1,500-meters (4:56.56). Sophomore
Dalania Clardy (Riverdale, Ga.) rounded out the top performances as she finished 12
th in the triple jump at 10.39-meters.
"Another fantastic track & field day for our Laker women!," said head coach
Mike Mead. "A second place finish in a deep field like this meet is satisfying. Our ladies stepped it up, especially on the relays."
Clayton State returns to action next week as they head right back to downtown Atlanta, this time for the Emory Classic from March 29-30.
NOTE
Over the course of her career, Elmore has broken 18 school records between the indoor and outdoor seasons … many of these have come when she has reset her own records, as was the case in the 100-meters.
