ATLANTA, Ga. – Competing on the first of back-to-back days, Clayton State men's and women's track & field opened the Emory Invitational with a limited field on Friday, March 22.
 
Senior Destiny Johnson (New Iberia, La.) led all Lakers with a first place finish ahead of 21 other competitors in the high jump. Her height of 1.65-meters delivered the second top finish of the season as she also accomplished the feat at the Savannah State Eye Opener on March 2.
 
Johnson also added a 14-of-38 outing in the long jump (4.81-meters) and was joined by sophomore Dalania Clardy (Riverdale, Ga.) who came in seventh at 5.05-meters. Junior Shockera Betty (Tallahassee, Fla.) rounded out the top women's results with a 21^st place finish in that event at 4.60-meters.
 
For the men, it was a small contingent of five Lakers competing in just three events. That group was headlined by freshman Derrick Ward (Marietta, Ga.) who placed 11-of-42 in the 400-meter hurdles (57.78).
 
Clayton State is right back in action for a much fuller day tomorrow, Saturday, March 23. Day 2 of the meet will kick off at 9:30 a.m. For those not in attendance, fans can follow all the action through live scoring and full recaps for the men and women will be available on www.ClaytonStateSports.com following the conclusion of each day of the meet.
