TROY, Ala. – Coming off the first meet victory in program history, Clayton State women's track & field followed that up with several strong performances at the Doc Anderson Invitational on Saturday, March 16. As a team they finished 5-of-7 in a field featuring four Division I programs.
Â
Junior
Nia Elmore (Hinesville, Ga.) headlined those efforts as she finished 8-of-32 in the 100-meters, however, that was not the real story. In earning that spot, she posted a time of 12.34 which was just one one-hundredth from equaling her own program record that she set on March 3, 2018 at the Victor Icebreaker Duals. She would also go on to deliver an 11-of-39 outing in the 200-meters (25.56).
Â
She was joined by junior
Jasmine Radford (Lawrenceville, Ga.) in that same event as she came in 3-of-39, posting a time of 24.99, while senior
Carla Catala Martin (Barcelona, Spain) was 6-of-23 in the 1,500-meters (5:01.52). On the field side of things, senior
Destiny Johnson (New Iberia, La.) added a 3-of-10 finish in the high jump (1.60m) and was 5-of-11 in the triple jump at 10.47-meters.
Â
Sophomore
Na'ilah Allen (McDonough, Ga.) and senior
Ariel Boyd-Ghani (Powder Springs, Ga.) were 11
th (5:10.78) and 12
th (5:11.35), respectively, in the 1,500-meters and sophomore
Chaviya Jackson (Albany, Ga.) was 18-of-39 in the 200-meters with a time of 26.26. Freshman
Kiara Green (Ty Ty, Ga.) rounded out the top performers with a 6-of-12 performance in the discus, hitting a mark of 36.03-meters.
Â
Clayton State will be in action just about in their own backyard over the next two weekends as they take part in the Emory Invitational from March 22-23 and the Emory Classic from March 29-30. Both of those meets will take place approximately 25 minutes from the Lakers campus in downtown Atlanta.
