AUGUSTA, Ga. – With the first meet victory in program history in the books, freshman
Kiara Green (Ty, Ty, Ga.) added to the early season accomplishments as she became the fourth individual in program history to claim Peach Belt Conference Women's Field Athlete of the Week recognition as announced by the league on Tuesday, March 12.
Â
Competing in the first outdoor meet of her career, she delivered Top-10 finishes in each of her three events at the Savannah State Eye Opener on Saturday, March 2.
Â
That effort was headlined by a 4-of-33 mark in the discus (36.94m) and followed by a 7-of-20 outing in the hammer (34.05m) and 9-of-25 finish with a distance of 10.33-meters in the shotput.
Â
"Quite a surprise for her to receive this recognition from the conference following her first collegiate outdoor meet," said head coach
Mike Mead. "She debuted with a huge personal best in the discus. Well deserved!"
Â
Overall, Clayton State has had nine such honors since the league began sponsoring outdoor track & field in 2013. Green joins
Bianca Kamara (2018),
Jessica Matthews (2013, 2014, 2015, 2016) and Brianna Heilsnis (2014) as the only four individuals to accomplish the feat in program history.
