MORROW, Ga. – Clayton State (19-8, 15-6 PBC) women's basketball goes for the 13
th 20 win season in the program's 28 years, and first since 2016-17, as they host rival Columbus State in the regular season finale on Saturday, March 2. Game time is set for a 1:30 p.m. at The Loch with Senior Day to follow directly prior to the men's game.
The Lakers are guaranteed a home Peach Belt Conference Tournament Quarterfinal game by virtue of their top four seeding (currently No. 4) but have the opportunity to move up a spot to No. 3. Flagler (16-5) holds that spot and faces UNC Pembroke (7-14) in St. Augustine, Florida on Saturday.
Â
A loss to the Braves, who are still fighting for a spot in the field, combined with a Clayton State victory will leave the teams tied in league play. That, however, will do the Saints no good as the Lakers own the tiebreaker courtesy of a season sweep that would put them in the three spot.
Clayton State trailsÂ
the all-time series 31-22Â dating back to the first meeting on November 25, 1995. With 53 meetings, it is the second most prevalent series in program history, trailing only the 56 games against Georgia College.
Â
The Cougars won 18 of the first 20 meetings before Clayton State responded by taking 20 of the next 22. Since March 8, 2014, however, Columbus has won the last 10 outings, including 76-71 overtime decision on February 2, 2019 in Columbus. The Lakers are 11-14 at The Loch in the series.
