Trip to Second Place Francis Marion on Docket as Clayton State Continues PBC Push

MORROW, Ga. – Riding a three game win streak, Clayton State (8-12, 5-9 PBC) men's basketball takes on one of the top teams in the Peach Belt Conference as they travel to Francis Marion (15-4, 11-3 PBC) for a weekend matinee on Saturday, February 9. Game time is set for approximately 3:30 p.m. in Florence, South Carolina following the women's contest.

The Lakers currently hold down the ninth spot in the standings and are just a half game behind rival Columbus State, whom they beat last week and play at The Loch to close the regular season, for the final spot in the PBC Tournament.

Moving up the standings, Lander (7-8) sits in seventh, Georgia College (7-7) in sixth and Young Harris (8-7) is fifth. GC is on the slate next week having already dropped an 82-67 decision in Morrow earlier in the season while the season series is complete against both the Bearcats and Mountain Lions with a split against each.

Clayton State is 19-10 all-time against the Patriots, dating to the first meeting on November 25, 1994 at The Loch. They have posted two separate five game winning streaks, first from January 6, 2001 through March 1, 2003 and again from January 24, 2009 through January 7, 2012.

The Lakers have won four of the last six meetings, including two of the last three. The Patriots picked up an 82-79 decision in Florence on January 7, 2017 while Clayton State won 66-59 on January 6, 2018 when FMU was ranked No. 23 in the country.

Since then, Clayton State claimed an 84-70 victory at The Loch on February 3, 2018 with FMU earning a 98-80 decision in Morrow on January 12 of this year. Additionally, the Lakers are an outstanding 12-3 all-time at home in the series but are .500 on the road at 7-7.
