Major Postseason Implications as Clayton State Readies for Trip to Georgia Southwestern

MORROW, Ga. – Clayton State (9-17, 6-14 PBC) men's basketball finds itself right in the mix for the final spot in the 2019 Peach Belt Conference Tournament as they head to Georgia Southwestern (4-22, 2-18 PBC) on Wednesday, February 27. Game time is set for approximately 7:30 p.m. in Americus, Georgia following the women's contest.

Entering play they sit in a ninth place tie with North Georgia (6-14) and are just a game back of rival Columbus State (7-13) for the final spot in the field. Outside of needing UNG to drop one of their two remaining games against either Lander (10-10) at home tomorrow or GSW on the road on Saturday, March 2, the Lakers control their own destiny.

With a Nighthawks loss, should they win out, that will propel them past the rival Cougars by virtue of a season sweep. The latter would come from a win in the final regular season game been the clubs this coming Saturday.

The Lakers trail the all-time series 21-19 dating back to the first meeting on January 26, 1991 when both schools were members of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and the Georgia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GIAC).

The Hurricanes won 12 of the first 13 meetings through February 19, 1996 but since then Clayton State has gone 15-9 in the series. With a buzzer beating 63-61 victory on February 21, 2018 and a 98-75 final on January 30, 2019, both at The Loch, they have extended to a seven-game winning streak marking their longest in series history.

Coverage of the game will be available on both live video and live stats. Full coverage can be found on www.ClaytonStateSports.com.
