Clayton State Heads to Rival Columbus State Eyeing Upward Movement in PBC

MORROW, Ga. – With back-to-back wins at home, Clayton State (12-6, 8-4 PBC) women's basketball heads to rival Columbus State (9-8, 6-7 PBC) looking to keep climbing the Peach Belt Conference standings on Saturday, February 1. Game time is set for 1:30 p.m. in Columbus, Georgia.

Now with a solid hold on the No. 4 spot in the Peach Belt Conference, three games ahead of UNC Pembroke thanks to a head-to-head win, the Lakers take aim at moving up in the standings entering the game against their rival to the south.

North Georgia and Flagler both check in at 9-3 in the league action but both also hold a head-to-head victory over the Lakers. That two-game separation puts Clayton State within striking distance of the No. 2 spot in the standings. The top spot is a tougher nut to crack, however, as Lander is 11-2 in PBC play and earned a sweep on the season.

Clayton State trails the all-time series 30-22 dating back to the first meeting on November 25, 1995. With 52 meetings, it is the second most prevalent series in program history, trailing only the 55 games against Georgia College.

The Cougars won 18 of the first 20 meetings before Clayton State responded by taking 20 of the next 22. Since March 8, 2014, however, Columbus has won the last nine outings, including an 80-53 decision on February 24, 2018 in Columbus. They are an impressive 16-8 in their building in the series.

Coverage of the game will be available on both live video and live stats. All coverage will be available on www.ClaytonStateSports.com with a full recap following the contest.
