Peach Belt Conference Opener Awaits as Clayton State Heads to UNC Pembroke for Matinee

MORROW, Ga. – Coming off of their final non-conference contest, Clayton State (4-4, 0-0 PBC) women's basketball will kick off a 20-game Peach Belt Conference slate as they travel to UNC Pembroke (6-3, 1-0 PBC) on Thursday, December 19. Game time is set for a special 1 p.m. tip-off following the men's 11 a.m. game.

Clayton State is an impressive 20-10 all-time against UNCP and are 11-5 on the road in the series. They have won 14 of the last 17 meetings with the only exceptions being a 69-59 Braves victory on January 19, 2015 in Pembroke, a 76-61 loss on the road on December 17, 2016 and a 53-47 decision at The Loch on February 17, 2018.

On February 25, 2017, the teams met in the PBC Tournament for the first time as the Lakers notched a 72-49 quarterfinal victory at The Loch. The series dates back to January 11, 1998 when Clayton State earned a 73-44 victory.

The Lakers posted a 58-52 win in Morrow on January 26, 2019 and made it just the third season sweep, and first since 2008-09, with a 59-47 decision in Pembroke on February 23, 2019. The others came in 2007-08 and 2002-03 with a significant gap coming from years of Divisional play that resulted in only one contest per year.
