MORROW, Ga. – After waiting five weeks to play on their home floor Clayton State (4-3, 0-0 PBC) women's basketball will welcome longtime rival Lander (4-3, 0-0 PBC) in their long awaited home opener which will also be a rare non-conference meeting as the teams get together at The Loch on Saturday, December 14. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m.
With the change in league scheduling from a traditional home-and-home series against every opponent, this year's schedule has the teams meeting only once. That being the case the clubs opted to continue their rivalry just prior to the start of the 2019-20 conference season.
Clayton State leads the
all-time series 20-17, dating back to the first meeting on January 31, 1998. In the history of the series, they held a nine-game win streak from January 15, 2005, through March 15, 2008, which is the longest between the two teams.
Â
The Lakers won five of six meetings between March 3, 2012 and December 17, 2015 but the Bearcats have taken the last eight. That includes a 92-71 decision on January 4, 2017, a 97-60 victory in the PBC Quarterfinals on March 4, 2017, 93-59 on December 19, 2017 and an 83-56 victory on January 15, 2018.
Â
More recently the Bearcats posted a relatively narrow 68-60 decision in Greenwood, South Carolina in the PBC Semifinals on February 28, 2018 before escaping The Loch with an 88-83 victory on December 19 later that year. Most recently Lander claimed their eighth consecutive contest as they came away with a 95-79 win on January 21, 2019 at home.
