Return Engagements With Wingate and No. 13 Anderson Await Clayton State at 2019 SAC/PBC Challenge

MORROW, Ga. – For the fourth straight year Clayton State (0-0, 0-0 PBC) women's basketball opens the season as they take on Wingate (0-0, 0-0 SAC) and No. 13 Anderson (0-0, 0-0 SAC) in the 2019 SAC/PBC Challenge from November 8-9. The teams have met to begin the year since 2016-17.

All games will take place at the Abney Athletic Center, home of Anderson and site of the 2019 NCAA Division II Southeast Regional. The Lakers will open with the Bulldogs on Friday, November 8 before taking on the host Trojans the following day. Both games are set for 1:30 p.m.

The Lakers are 2-2 all-time against Anderson, having played each of the past three seasons. The teams met for the first time in the 2016 NCAA Tournament when AU posted an 80-56 decision in Gaffney, S.C. on March 11 of that year.

They would lock horns again that fall when Clayton State took down No. 21 Anderson by an 84-73 score on November 11 in Savannah, Georgia. The Trojans notched a 79-36 decision at the 2017 Challenge on November 10 in Wingate, N.C. before Clayton State posted a thrilling 67-66 win on November 9, 2018 at The Loch.

The Lakers are 6-6 in the all-time series against Wingate, one that has gone on since December 30, 2000. They picked up the lead in the series, 5-4, with a thrilling 73-72 victory on November 12, 2016, the fifth in the previous six games between the teams. However, the Bulldogs evened with a 59-48 win on November 11, 2017.

WU's lone win during that previous stretch was a slim 64-63 decision in the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional on March 10, 2012. The Bulldogs hold a 4-1 advantage on a neutral court with all but two of those meetings occurring in the NCAA Tournament. In 2006 they earned a 67-64 victory on March 11 and an 82-72 decision on March 17, 2008.

The teams met twice last year as Clayton State notched a last second 56-54 victory on November 10, 2018 but WU would prevail 76-66 in the NCAA Tournament at Anderson on March 15, 2019.
