HAMPTON, Ga. – Clayton State Athletics delivered another strong event in service of its student-athletes as nearly 100 golfers came out for the 2018 Cambridge Computer Laker Club Golf Classic at Crystal Lake Golf & Country Club in Hampton, Georgia on Monday, August 27.
 
All proceeds of the event benefit the ongoing educational pursuits of current and former Clayton State student-athletes, particularly those within reach of completing their degrees.
 
A traditional best ball scramble, the Classic featured a title sponsor for the second consecutive year as Cambridge Computer headlined a host of dedicated community partners. A number of those were organizations or individuals that have supported the Lakers in previous Classics and played today.
 
The day also featured a number of special events and prize opportunities, including Hole-in-One contests and long drive contests. Allan Vigil Ford provided each of those and had a brand new vehicle on the line for anyone that could ace the hole it was on.
 
Teams took to the course in a shotgun start around 9:30 a.m., following breakfast sponsored and provided by Bojangles. Among the day's highlights was a full dinner sponsored by Rocky's Café and Pizza followed by the awards ceremony at close of day. The latter also featured a silent auction as well as a raffle for various prizes.
 
Overall, the Lock Step team of Brian Afanador, Billy Matthews, Don Groff and David Plaxco took home first place honors. Each received a substantial first place trophy with the second and third place teams each receiving trophies for their performances.
 
The Cambridge Computer Laker Club Golf Classic will return to the Crystal Lake family of courses for 2019. Stay tuned to www.ClaytonStateSports.com for announcement of the date of next year's Classic.
