MORROW, Ga. – Clayton State (0-0, 0-0 PBC) women's basketball kicks off the 2018-19 season in a big way as they host No. 21 Wingate (0-0, 0-0 SAC), Anderson (0-0, 0-0 SAC) and Georgia College (0-0, 0-0 PBC) in the 2018 SAC/PBC Challenge from November 9-10.
Â
All games will take place at The Loch with Wingate and Georgia College getting things started at 5 p.m. on the opening day while Anderson the Lakers will tip-off at approximately 7 p.m. On Saturday, November 10, the Peach Belt Conference schools will switch dance partners as the Trojans take on GC and Clayton State faces WU. Those games will take place at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m., respectively.
Â
The Lakers are 1-2 all-time against Anderson, having played each of the past three seasons. The teams met for the first time in the 2016 NCAA Tournament when AU posted an 80-56 decision in Gaffney, S.C. on March 11 of that year. They would lock horns again that fall when Clayton State took down No. 21 Anderson by an 84-73 score on November 11 in Savannah, Georgia. Most recently the Trojans notched a 79-36 decision at last year's Challenge on November 10 in Wingate, N.C.
Â
Clayton State is 5-5 in the all-time series against Wingate, one that has gone on since December 30, 2000. They picked up the lead in the series with a thrilling 73-72 victory on November 12, 2016, the fifth in the previous six games between the teams. However, the Bulldogs evened with a 59-48 win on November 11, 2017.
Â
WU's lone win during that previous stretch was a slim 64-63 decision in the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional on March 10, 2012. The Bulldogs hold a 3-1 advantage on a neutral court with all but one of those meetings occurring in the NCAA Tournament. In 2006 they earned a 67-64 victory on March 11 and an 82-72 decision on March 17, 2008.
