AUGUSTA, Ga. – With the Peach Belt Conference Tournament on the horizon, Clayton State has had six individuals named to the 2018 PBC Women's Soccer All-Academic Team as announced by the league on Thursday, October 25.
 
Earning spots on the team were junior defender Manoly Baquerizo (Guayaquil, Ecuador), sophomore defender Claudene Bent (Snellville, Ga.), junior defender Janne Brouer (Aarhus, Denmark), redshirt-junior midfielder Marie Durr (Stockbridge, Ga.), junior midfielder Jane McKevitt (Thurles, Ireland) and sophomore midfielder Ann-Cathrin Zabel (Schwarme, Germany).
 
Baquerizo made the team with a 3.7 GPA in Biology while Bent did so with a 3.61 in Criminal Justice and Brouer a 3.8 in Business. Durr posted a 3.3 in Biology, McKevitt a 3.82 in Mathematics and Zabel, while undecided on a major, delivered a 3.8.
 
For Bent, Zabel and Durr, it is their first such honor while Baquerizo, Brouer and McKevitt each collect their second in as many years of being eligible for the recognition.
 
In order to qualify for the Academic All-Conference Team, student-athletes must have been at their institution for one calendar year, have achieved a cumulative Grade Point Average of 3.30 or higher on a 4.0 scale and competed in at least 50-percent of their sport as a significant contributor.
 
The GPA is calculated through the previous semester and an individual that is a graduate transfer to an institution other than where they earned their undergraduate degree is immediately eligible.
 
The Peach Belt Conference Women's Soccer Academic All-Conference Team is released near the close of the regular season each year and prior to the conference championship. Clayton State women's soccer has qualified for the 2018 PBC Tournament and will be back in action on Tuesday, October 30 when they travel to league regular season champion No. 3 Columbus State for a 6 p.m. quarterfinal.
