Clayton State's Egan Earns Second Straight Division II PING All-Southeast Region Team Selection

NORMAN, Okla. – For just the second time in program history, a Clayton State golfer has been named to the Division II PING All-South Region Team on multiple occasions, an accomplishment achieved by senior Keith Egan (Newbridge, Ireland) on Tuesday, May 23 as announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA).

One of only 12 student-athletes to be so recognized in the Southeast Region, and 108 nationally, Egan is in select company with his second consecutive All-Region honor.

This year he became the first Laker to qualify twice for the NCAA Division II Tournament as an individual, doing so in consecutive years, and made his third appearance overall following the team earning a berth in 2014. He is also one of only five players in team history to earn an individual berth.

Additionally, he delivered five Top-10 finishes, highlighted by his first career victory. He accomplished that feat at the Southern Tide Classic (3/7) when he shot a one-under 215 and team-low tying 67 in the final round.

Egan also tied for fifth at the Third Annual UNG Fall Invitational (10/4) and was three-under to tie for eighth at the Jay Jennison Cup (9/20). From March 27-28 he set the stage for his trip to regionals as he tied for 10th out of 96 golfers at the South/Southeast Region Preview. Held at the site of the regional tournament, he fired off a 216 with a low of 69, that coming in Round 2.

On the year he shot 33 rounds, finishing with a team-best 73.45 stroke average. The latter tied for ninth best in the highly competitive Peach Belt Conference and helped him earn All-PBC First-Team honors.

It was the second All-Conference honor of his career following Second-Team recognition in 2016 and only the third multi-time winner in program history. He was also named PBC Golfer of the Week on March 9 following his medalist performance.

Among the 11 other selections, Egan is one of just four individuals that have repeated their performance from last year's team. Joining him are Ethan Chamineak (Georgia Southwestern), Michal Pospisil (Lander) and David Wallin (Young Harris).

He is just the eighth overall All-Region selection in program history, and remains only the fifth different individual to accomplish that feat. The only other Lakers on that list are Fredrik Lindblom (2014), Wade Binfield (2009), Will Wilcox (2007, 2008, 2009) and Dave Kelly (1999). Egan joins PGA Tour professional Wilcox as the only other multi-time selection.

"I am extremely proud of Keith's accomplishment," said head coach Hank Kim. "To be only the second player in the history of our program to achieve this is amazing. He has worked hard and stayed positive throughout his time at Clayton State and the results have taken care of themselves."
