Clayton State Falls 7-2 at No. 38 Young Harris; Ageichik Earns Third Straight Singles Win

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – Taking on their second consecutive nationally ranked opponent on the road in as many days, Clayton State (2-13, 0-10 PBC) could not overcome a strong No. 38 Young Harris (14-5, 7-3 PBC) team, falling 7-2 in an NCAA Division II women's tennis match on Sunday, April 2.

The Lakers dropped a pair of 8-1 decisions at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles before seniors Kristiin Mets (Kuressaare, Estonia) and senior Darina Drozdova (St. Petersburg, Russia) broke through. Taking on Maria Puerta and Carol Quevedo at the No. 2 spot, the tandem would deliver a commanding 8-3 victory to cut it to 2-1 heading into singles action.

YHC would recover quickly from that defeat, posting four straight wins at the second, fifth, fourth and third positions, respectively, to clinch the match. Junior Alina Ageichik (Minsk, Republic of Belarus) earned her third straight singles victory to snap that streak, delivering an impressive 6-1, 6-3 decision over Kadie Hudgins at No. 6.

Mets would then round out the match as she fell by a 6-3, 6-1 score to the No. 40 singles player in the country, Eva Castiglioni at the top spot.

The Lakers return to action on Wednesday, April 5 when they host to NAIA No. 1 and defending national champion Georgia Gwinnett (19-0). First serve is set for 2 p.m. at the Clayton State Tennis Facility.
