Clayton State Heads to No. 10/10 Columbus State For Battle of Peach Belt Conference’s Top Two Teams

MORROW, Ga. – In what could be a preview of more than one postseason matchup, Clayton State (19-4, 11-3 PBC) heads to No. 10/10 Columbus State (20-1, 14-1) in a meeting between the Peach Belt Conference's top two teams. That showdown will take place in Columbus, Georgia on Wednesday, February 8 at 5:30 p.m. at the Lumpkin Center.

The Cougars enter the game having won 11 straight and as the top team in the NCAA Division II Southeast Region. They are also ranked No. 10 in both the D2SIDA Media Poll and USA Today Sports/WBCA Coaches Poll. Meanwhile, the Lakers are riding a five game win streak following a last second 58-57 victory over North Georgia last night.

Clayton State trails the all-time series 27-22 dating back to the first meeting on November 25, 1995. With 49 meetings, it is the second most prevalent series in program history, trailing only the 51 games against Georgia College. The Cougars won 18 of the first 20 meetings before Clayton State responded by taking 20 of the next 22. Since March 8, 2014, however, Columbus has won the last six outings, including a 78-56 decision on January 21, 2017 at The Loch.
