MORROW, Ga. – Facing a team that has yet to drop a match this year, Clayton State (0-3, 0-1 PBC) fell by an 8-1 score to Montevallo (9-0, 1-0 PBC) in an NCAA Division II women's tennis match on Saturday, February 25.

UM would open with a pair of 8-0 doubles victories as they claimed both the No. 2 and No. 3 sets. It would be a different story at the top spot, however, where seniors
Kristiin Mets (Kuressaare, Estonia) and
Darina Drozdova (St. Petersburg, Russia) overpowered Alice Copland and Rayne Sinclair by an 8-1 decision. That loss was only the second of the year for that tandem.

Unfortunately, it would remain the lone point on the board for the Lakers as Montevallo would go on to sweep singles action for an 8-1 victory. Among the most tightly contested matches were No. 6 were senior
Carolina Monterrubio (Mexico City, Mexico) fell 7-6, 6-4 to Amanda Gautreaux and freshman
Laura Shkembi (Oostende, Belgium) at No. 3. In the latter, Shkembi dropped a 7-5, 6-1 decision.

The Lakers return to action on Saturday, March 4 when they travel to No. 1 and defending NCAA Division II National Champion Armstrong State. First serve is set for 2 p.m. in Savannah, Georgia.
