MORROW, Ga. – Clayton State (14-12, 9-8 PBC) enters the weekend needing a win to keep their postseason hopes alive for a berth in the 2017 Peach Belt Conference Tournament as they travel to Georgia College (15-11, 9-8 PBC) on Saturday, February 18. Game time is set for a special tip time of 5:30 p.m. in Milledgeville, Georgia following the conclusion of the women's contest.
Â
The Lakers enter the game in a three-way tie with Columbus State and GC in a battle for two of the final three spots in the tournament. They have the advantage over the Cougars with their first season sweep of them since the 1999-2000 season but lost their first meeting to the Bobcats, giving them the advantage at the moment.
Â
Behind that group is 8-8 Young Harris, which earned a sweep and still has three games to play, giving them the opportunity to get into the field. Leading the way are North Georgia (11-6), whom Clayton State swept, and Montevallo, a team that they'll look to earn a split with in the final regular season meeting on February 22.
Â
The Lakers
trail the all-time series 25-22 dating back to the first meeting on December 8, 1990 in the first season of the program. It is also the most frequent series with 46 meetings. GC dominated the first 12 meetings, winning 10 of them, but Clayton State has gone 20-14 against the Bobcats since then, a stretch that began on January 13, 2001.
Â
Despite the Lakers holding a 7-4 advantage in the last 10 games, Georgia College swept last year's meetings with a buzzer beating 77-75 victory at The Loch (1/13/16) and a 73-61 decision in Milledgeville, Ga. (2/17/16). This year they claimed a 60-51 victory on February 1.
