MORROW, Ga. – Clayton State (0-1, 0-0 PBC) opened the 2017 season with a 6-3 loss at NAIA Middle Georgia (1-1, 0-0 SSAC) in an NCAA Division II women's tennis match on Sunday, February 12.
 
The Lakers would find themselves down 3-0 after doubles action with the tandem of seniors 
Kristiin Mets (Kuressaare, Estonia) and 
Darina Drozdova (St. Petersburg, Russia) dropping a competitive 8-5 decision at the No. 1 position.
 
Senior 
Carolina Monterrubio (Mexico City, Mexico) got Clayton State on the board with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Yannick Garcia at No. 5 singles before a pair of Knights' wins at the No. 3 and No. 1 spots clinched the match for MGU.
 
Drozdova and junior 
Alina Ageichik (Minsk, Republic of Belarus) then secured the other two wins on the day for the Lakers. The former picked up a 6-2, 6-1 victory at the No. 2 spot while Ageichik notched a 6-2, 3-6, 11-9 decision at No. 4.
 
Clayton State is back in action on Saturday, February 18 when they travel to Shorter. First serve is set for 1 p.m. in Rome, Georgia.
