Clayton State Drops Low Scoring Affair, 60-51, to Georgia College

MORROW, Ga. – Clayton State (11-11, 6-7 PBC) could not recover from a first half deficit as they dropped a 60-51 decision to Georgia College (12-8, 6-5 PBC) in an NCAA Division II men's basketball game on Wednesday, February 1.

Freshman guard Kyle Kincey (Tallahassee, Fla.) led the way with 14 points while graduate forward Jaumonee Byrd (Douglasville, Ga.) finished with 11 points and four boards. Redshirt-senior forward Alfonso Davis (Bronx, N.Y.) chipped in with six points, five rebounds, two steals and a pair of blocks. Sophomore forward Jaylen Taylor rounded things out with seven points.

Clayton State rushed out to an early 13-7 lead over the first 6:55 before a barrage of three-pointers by the Bobcats, two by Matt McCorkle, flipped the script and gave them a 19-13 lead at the 7:19 mark. That margin would grow to 27-19 just under three minutes later. The Lakers would get to within five before finding themselves down 32-26 at the break.

They would keep it close at the start of the second half, pulling to within 36-31, before GC pushed out to a 49-38 lead behind a 13-7 stretch culminating at the 6:39 mark. Over the next four-plus minutes they would maintain at least a nine point lead and salt away the 60-51 victory over the final minutes.

Desmond Mitchell-LaFlam led the Bobcats with 18 points, six boards and four assists while McCorkle finished with 12 points, nine rebounds and four steals. Isaac Thomas added a near double-double of nine points and eight caroms to wrap up GC's top performers.

The Lakers will continue to enjoy the benefits of playing at home as they host North Georgia on Monday, February 6. Game time is slated for 7:30 p.m. following the conclusion of the women's contest at The Loch.
