Harmon Delivers First Career Hat Trick As Clayton State Buries Georgia Southwestern 4-1

MORROW, Ga. – In a key Peach Belt Conference contest, Clayton State (6-6, 1-2 PBC) rode the legs of freshman defender Dionysius Harmon (Loganville, Ga.) as they powered past Georgia Southwestern (4-6-0, 0-3-0 CC) by a 4-1 score in an NCAA Division II men's soccer game on Wednesday, October 11.

After more than 20 minutes of scoreless play, sophomore forward Dean Foster (Johannesburg, South Africa) found his offensive groove as he was instrumental in the Lakers taking a 2-0 lead by the 25:18 mark. Taking a free kick at the 20:05 mark, he buried his seventh goal of the season, drilling it to the back right corner.

That 1-0 margin would grow to two goals five minutes later as Foster dished a ball from the left wing to the far right post. From there, Harmon buried it into the left side for his third goal of the year, this at 25:18. That 2-0 lead would then hold into the half.

It would remain more of the same over the final 45 minutes, however, as Harmon erupted for a career game. With 56:36 gone by he charged in from the left side and fired a hard shot into the back right corner of the net for his second goal of the game.

That score made it 3-0 but was quickly answered by GSW's leading scorer Silvio Polly. He would take advantage of a foul in the box and promptly converted for his sixth goal of the year, this at the 57:52 mark. Harmon would have the opportunity for a PK of his own a few minutes later only to be stonewalled.

However, that would not stop him from securing his hat trick as he recovered in the 62nd minute. Junior defender Kwaku Dwamena (Richmond, Va.) crossed the ball from the deep right side to the far left post where the imposing freshman buried it into the right corner for a 4-1 lead with 61:23 gone by. From there both defenses would lock down over the final 28-plus minutes to maintain that three goal margin.

Polly would account for the Hurricanes offense with his one goal while Divin Moke led the club with six shots, four on goal. In net, Joshua Swift played all 90 minutes, surrendering four goals against 11 saves to fall to 4-6-1 on the year.

Harmon led Clayton State with his first career hat trick, doing so on six shots, while Foster tallied a goal and an assist. The latter also led with a game high 11 shots, eight on goal. Redshirt-senior goalkeeper Oliver Pannell (Nottingham, England) was solid in net with just the one goal allowed in 90 minutes. He made five saves to move to 4-6 on the season.

The Lakers continue PBC action on Wednesday, October 18 as they host No. 13 Young Harris. Kickoff is slated for 7:30 p.m. at Laker Field.
