Clayton State's Filmore Selected to Attend 2017 NCAA Emerging Leaders Seminar

MORROW, Ga. – Current Clayton State Graduate Assistant for Athletic Administration Alisha Filmore has been selected to attend the 2017 NCAA Emerging Leaders Seminar from January 25-27.

Filmore is one of 222 graduates or interns nationwide that have traveled to the home offices of the NCAA in Indianapolis, Indiana for the seminar, which is designed to explore the role of NCAA governance, the differences in the organization's three divisions and present the opportunity to identify and network with key decision makers in college athletics.

While there she will take part in area specific breakout sessions based upon her current position as well as a DiSC Behavioral Assessment that will help her understand interactions with individuals of different backgrounds as she progresses throughout her career.

As a benefit of being among those individuals selected to participate nationwide, the NCAA will cover two nights of hotel accommodations, food and conference materials during Filmore's stay in Indianapolis. The seminar's agenda will also feature a number of speakers that will present during the two day event.

A former Division I women's basketball player at Southern Methodist, Filmore joined the Lakers in August of 2016. Previously she was a professional basketball player overseas and handed national recruiting for a Fortune 500 Company through Kelly Services. She is directly responsible for helping to develop and implement the marketing and promotion endeavors of the department.

Filmore is also one of just six individuals selected to participate from the NCAA Division II Southeast Region and one of only two from the Peach Belt Conference. Joining her from the PBC is Therno Diallo (Francis Marion) and Macy Terry (North Georgia) and from the Southeast Region are Sara Allen (Conference Carolinas), Katelyn Holley (Lenoir-Rhyne) and Andrea Roca (Barton).

"The Emerging Leaders Seminar is a wonderful opportunity for young professionals working in athletics to come to the national office, form a network of like-minded peers and develop knowledge of the college sports industry at all levels," said Bernard Franklin, NCAA executive vice president of education and community engagement and chief inclusion officer.

During her time in Indianapolis, Filmore will be providing www.ClaytonStateSports.com with details of her trip, which will be available online.
