YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – In their second match in as many days, Clayton State (5-12, 4-8 PBC) could not hold off Young Harris (12-6, 5-5 PBC) as they dropped a 7-2 decision in an NCAA Division II women's tennis match on Sunday, April 10.
Â
Trailing 2-0, the Lakers tandem of senior
Raluca Pavel (Bacau, Romania) and junior
Kristiin Mets (Kuressaare, Estonia) got the team on the board. Playing at No. 1 doubles, they would pull out a marathon 9-8 victory over Elin Rundcrantz and Maria Puerta to head to singles trailing by just one.
Â
It would be in singles, however, that the Mountain Lions would pull away as they took the first five matches to secure the victory. Pavel would make it two victories on the day as she would prevail at the No. 1 position, earning a 2-6, 7-5, 6-2 decision to reach the final margin of 7-2.
Â
The Lakers wrap up the regular season with a pair of home matches next weekend as they host Lander and No. 50 USC Aiken on Saturday, April 16 and Sunday, April 17, respectively. Both matches are set for a 2 p.m. first serve in Morrow, Georgia.
