No. 24 Clayton State Set to Take on Rival Lander in Peach Belt Conference Semifinals

MORROW, Ga. – A familiar foe awaits No. 24 Clayton State (22-5, 15-4 PBC) as they return to the Peach Belt Conference Tournament Semifinals to face East Division Champion Lander (23-6, 16-3 PBC) on Saturday, March 5. Tip-off is set for approximately 8:30 p.m. at the Lumpkin Center in Columbus, Georgia.

A matchup that has seen many great games, including the epic No. 1 vs. No. 2 game from the Lakers National Championship season, Clayton State holds a 20-9 all-time advantage over the Bearcats. Additionally, they have won eight of the last 10 games dating back to a 79-77 decision in the Peach Belt Conference Tournament on March 6, 2010.

This season they posted the second largest victory in the series with an 82-61 decision on December 17 at The Loch. That trails only the 88-54 Lakers victory from February 2, 2013. This will be the team's eighth meeting in the postseason between NCAA and Peach Belt Conference Tournament action.

Lander enters having won 11 straight games, a streak that began on January 23 and has stretched to an 80-74 quarterfinal victory over Georgia College (2/27).

For Clayton State, they come into the game with their 11th season of 20 or more wins and a national ranking of No. 24 in the D2SIDA Media Poll. The game will also be a matchup of two of the top defensive teams in the country as LU enters No. 2 (24.38) in the nation in turnovers forced with the Lakers right behind them at No. 3 (23.96). Additionally, Clayton State is No. 5 in steals per game (12.6) and No. 8 in total steals (339).
