Peach Belt Conference Golfer of the Week ReleaseÂ
AUGUSTA, Ga. – With a top flight performance against the toughest Division II field in the country, junior
Keith Egan (Newbridge, Ireland) has been named the Men's Golfer of the Week by the Peach Belt Conference as announced by the league on Thursday, March 3.
Â
Competing in the South/Southeast Regional Preview, Egan shot a 75-72-80-222 and tied for 15
th overall out of a field of 93 golfers. That field included 13 nationally ranked teams, including No. 1 St. Leo, No. 2 Chico State, No. 4 Nova Southeastern, No. 5 Florida Southern and No. 10 Lynn. The Lakers would finish 15-of-18 and ahead of No. 28 Delta State.
Â
"Keith is an absolute pleasure to have on the team," said head men's golf coach
Hank Kim. "He is the team captain and has an exceptional attitude. I'm not surprised he played well on such a difficult golf course and he has set the bar high. I look forward to seeing what he can do the rest of the season."
Â
He becomes just the sixth individual to earn the award in program history, joining Will Wilcox (4), Fredrik Lindblom (2),
Alex Vetnar (1),
Henry Gee (1) and Haskell (1). The PBC has given the award since the 2007-08 season and these six individuals have combined to take home 10 such honors.
Â
Egan is the first Laker to be so recognized this year and the first since former teammate
Ryan Haskell (Newport, Wales) did so on October 23, 2014.
Â
Clayton State returns to action on March 21-22 when they take part in the Bobcat Invitational. Held in Eatonton, Georgia the tournament will be hosted by Georgia College and be the team's second-to-last before the Peach Belt Conference Championships.
