AMERICUS, Ga. – Clayton State (2-4, 1-3 PBC) picked up its first Peach Belt Conference victory of the season as they downed Georgia Southwestern (3-7, 0-4 PBC) in an NCAA Division II women's tennis match on Sunday, February 28.

The Lakers jumped out ahead early with a pair of 8-2 victories during doubles play as the pairings of sophomore
Alina Ageichik (Minsk, Republic of Belarus) and junior
Carolina Monterrubio (Mexico City, Mexico) and juniors
Darina Drozdova (St. Petersburg, Russia) and
Maria Mendes (Sau Paulo, Brazil) earned those at No. 3 and No. 2, respectively.

Raluca Pavel (Bacau, Romania) and junior
Kristiin Mets (Kuressaare, Estonia) would make it 3-0 as they posted the final doubles win. It would take an extra effort, however, as Sydnee Smith and Anneliese Leahy gave them a stiff challenge at No. 1 before falling 9-8.

In singles action, a 6-0, 6-0 win by Drozdova at No. 3 and 6-2, 6-3 decision by Monterrubio at No. 6 quickly put the match away. Pavel (6-1, 6-2), Mets (6-3, 6-4) and Ageichik (6-3, 6-3) each followed with wins at No. 1, No. 2 and No. 5, respectively, before GSW's Cecila Castillo-Torres prevailed with a 5-7, 7-5, 10-2 victory at the No. 4 spot to reach the final margin of 8-1.

The Lakers conclude their season opening seven match road trip as they head to NAIA National Champion and No. 1 Auburn -Montgomery. First serve is set for 5 p.m. on Friday, March 4 in Montgomery, Alabama.
