MORROW, Ga. – Clayton State (1-3, 0-2 PBC) resumes Peach Belt Conference play as they travel to No. 8 Columbus State (6-2, 3-0) on Saturday, February 27. First serve is set for 12 p.m. in Columbus, Georgia.
A team that went 23-4 a year ago, and 12-1 in the PBC, the Cougars are off to another strong start. Two losses may seem a lot at this point in the season for a program of that caliber, but not when you look at who they came to. Columbus opened with a narrow 5-4 defeat to No. 6 West Florida and, most recently, fell 7-2 at Division III No. 2 Emory. They have won every other match by at least a 6-3 score.
Clayton State returns to action following an 8-1 loss at No. 13 Georgia College (2/21) in their last outing. The Lakers pairing of senior
Raluca Pavel (Bacua, Romania) and junior
Kristiin Mets (Kuressaare, Estonia) picked up the lone victory on the day, with that coming as an 8-3 decision against the No. 1 tandem for the Bobcats.
All-time, the Lakers are 7-18 against Columbus State dating back to the first meeting on April 2, 1996. The Cougars have won the last five meetings following a 5-2 Clayton State victory on May 3, 2011 in the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional Championship.
