COLUMBUS, Ga. – Facing No. 8 and NCAA Division II National Quarterfinalist Columbus State (7-2, 4-0 PBC), Clayton State (1-4, 0-3 PBC) had no answers as they dropped a 9-0 road decision in an NCAA Division II women's tennis match on Saturday, February 27.

The Cougars came out and took control early on as they swept doubles with an 8-0 decision at No. 3, 8-1 at No. 1 and 8-3 at the No. 2 spot. From there, it wouldn't get much better for the Lakers. Columbus would claim the match with back-to-back singles wins at No. 6 (6-0, 6-0) and No. 1 (6-0, 6-1), respectively, before Clayton State put together three solid matches.

Maria Mendes (Sau Paulo, Brazil) pushed Olivera Tadijin at No. 4 before surrendering a 6-3, 6-3 decision and junior
Darina Drozdova (St. Petersburg, Russia) went 7-6 in the first set against No. 50 Kirsa Utech but dropped the second set 6-1.

Alina Ageichik (Minsk, Republic of Belarus) put together the best overall performance at No. 5 as she won the first set 6-3 with Saravinder Pannu barely getting past her 6-4 in the second. In the third and final set, Pannu would again escape, this time 10-8, to claim the match.

The Lakers are back in action on Sunday, February 28 when they head to Georgia Southwestern (3-5, 0-2 PBC) for a Peach Belt Conference contest. First serve is set for 2 p.m. in Americus, Ga.
