MORROW, Ga. – With a week since their last outing, Clayton State (1-2, 0-1 PBC) returns to action but does so against some of the toughest teams in the country, with three matches against nationally ranked foes in their next four contests. That stretch begins at No. 13 Georgia College (2-3, 1-1 PBC) on Sunday, February 21. First serve is set for 2 p.m. in Milledgeville, Georgia.
GC may sport a sub-.500 record but it is who they have played that is important. They opened the season with a 5-4 victory over NAIA No. 10 Brenau (1/30) and just swept Montevallo (2/20) in their last outing. In between they dropped three straight 7-2 decisions to nationally ranked foes. Those included No. 3 Saint Leo (2/6), No. 21 Valdosta State (2/5) and No. 31 Flagler (2/14).
The Lakers return to the court after collecting their first win of the season a week ago. In that one they obliterated Clark Atlanta 9-0, earning a sweep against the Panthers for the fifth time in six meetings. Following their match with Georgia College, they will take on No. 8 Columbus State, Georgia Southwestern and NAIA No. 1 and defending national champion Auburn-Montgomery.
Clayton State's all-time record against the Bobcats currently stands at 12-14 with three straight losses dating back to April 12, 2013. Prior to that they had won nine straight matches beginning on April 20, 2007.
