MORROW, Ga. – Clayton State women's basketball kicks of its 26
th season as they head to Savannah, Georgia for the SAC/PBC Challenge hosted by Armstrong State on November 11-12.
Pitting members of the South Atlantic Conference and Peach Belt Conference against each other, the tournament will feature a pair of games for the Lakers. That set will kick off with a now familiar foe as they take on No. 21 Anderson (23-7) in the opener at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, November 11.
Last season these teams met for the
first time in program history as the Trojans earned an 80-56 victory in the first round of the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional on March 11. Not only will it be a second consecutive meeting for the clubs, it will be the second straight one on a neutral floor as the regional was played in Gaffney, South Carolina.
Clayton State will then face another NCAA Tournament team from a year ago as they take on Wingate (21-9) on Saturday, November 12 at 2 p.m. The
all-time series is deadlocked at 4-4 and dates back to the first meeting on December 30, 2000. The Bulldogs earned a narrow 68-66 victory in that game, which kicked off three straight wins in the series.
Since the 2008-09 season the teams have met five times with the Lakers winning four of those meetings. WU's lone win during that stretch was a slim 64-63 decision in the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional on March 10, 2012. The Bulldogs hold a 3-0 advantage on a neutral court with all of those meetings occurring in the NCAA Tournament. In 2006 they earned a 67-64 victory on March 11 and an 82-72 decision on March 17, 2008.
Both games will be available on live stats but there will be no video coverage of either of the two Clayton State contests.
