MORROW, Ga. – Having won four of their last five games, Clayton State (11-6, 6-4 PBC) hits the road for a key Peach Belt Conference meeting at Georgia Southwestern (8-9, 4-6 PBC) on Wednesday, January 27. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m. at the Storm Dome in Americus, Georgia.
The Hurricanes kick off a three-game homestand having won two of their last three games, with two of those contests coming on the road. During that stretch they notched a 67-62 victory at home against USC Aiken and defeated UNC Pembroke (1/23) 81-70 on the road. Their only loss came at Armstrong State (1/18) as they dropped a 106-100 triple overtime decision on Martin Luther King Day.
Clayton State has been getting hot at the right time of the season and have positioned themselves just outside the final transfer spot in the PBC West Division. At 6-4 in the league, they find themselves behind three teams that are 7-3 in Columbus State, Georgia College and Montevallo.
Against those teams, the Lakers knocked off UM in their first meeting, dropped a heartbreaker at the buzzer against the Bobcats and have yet to face Columbus. Most recently they have won three straight, taking down Flagler (1/16) 87-73, UNC Pembroke (1/18) 84-80 and North Georgia (1/24) 83-75.
Nationally, Clayton State has posted some impressive numbers as they are No. 5 in the country in field goal percentage defense (.387), seventh in blocks per game (5.2), 14
th in defensive rebounds per game (29.4) and 16
th in total blocks (89).
