New Year for Clayton State Begins with Battle for First Place at Young Harris on January 2

MORROW, Ga. – Clayton State (8-1, 2-0 PBC) comes into 2016 with a sterling 8-1 overall record and perfect league mark as they head to Young Harris (7-2, 2-0 PBC) for a battle of first place teams in the Peach Belt Conference West Division on Saturday, January 2.

YHC begins the New Year having gone 5-2 against non-conference foes, with their only losses coming at Lee (79-63 on 11/19) and West Florida (68-49 on 11/28). The Mountain Lions are undefeated at home (6-0) following an impressive 63-48 victory over Armstrong State (12/17), which entered at 8-1 following their first loss, and Flagler (45-39 on 12/19).

For the Lakers, they closed 2015 with a pair of impressive victories, knocking off Lander (82-61 on 12/17) and ending No. 15 Francis Marion's undefeated season with a convincing 73-61 on December 19. As a result of that start, Clayton State has garnered 13 votes in the D2SIDA Media Poll as of December 23.

The Lakers are also undefeated at home (5-0) but will be on the road for their first true road contest. Their four previous games away from The Loch were all neutral site games, which they went 3-1 in with the only loss coming to No. 9/18 Lubbock Christian (79-54 on 11/27).
