MORROW, Ga. – For the second straight game, an early first half goal would be the difference as Clayton State (6-4-1, 2-3-0 PBC) dropped a narrow 1-0 decision to North Georgia (3-8-1, 2-3-0 PBC) in an NCAA Division II men's soccer game on Wednesday, October 14.
Coming off a 1-0 loss at Lander with a goal at 16:58, the Lakers would face an identical challenge against the Nighthawks. With 16:51 gone by, Ivan Acimovic delivered an unassisted score from the far right side. He would power that ball into the back right corner of the goal for a 1-0 lead.
Clayton State would mount a series of three straight shots at the beginning of the 19th minute but without success. They would add two more shots in the first half and eight in the second but could not deliver the equalizer, suffering their second straight 1-0 defeat.
Acimovic notched the only offense with his game-winning goal while Victor Ohlin making 11 saves in goal to earn the shutout. He improves to 3-4-0 on the year.
For Clayton State, they managed 18 shots on the day, including four shots each by graduate forward
Iain Smith (Suwanee, Ga.) and senior midfielder
Jonny Evans (Seaham, England). Evans put all four on goal while Smith had three shots on goal. In net, senior goalkeeper
Viltsu Tuumi (Pori, Finland) made four saves and allowed just the one goal to drop to 4-3-1.
The Lakers continue a three-game homestand on Sunday, October 18 when they host Francis Marion. Game time is set for 3:30 p.m. at Laker Field.
