Clayton State men lose 2-1 to UNC Pembroke

PEMBROKE, N.C. – Two early second half goals by host UNC Pembroke proved to be the deciding factor Saturday as the Clayton State men's soccer team dropped a 2-1 Peach Belt Conference road game to the Braves.  Pembroke got its first goal 22 seconds into the second half and its second score came three minutes later for their first PBC win of the season.

Clayton State (3-3-1, 1-1-0) out-shot Pembroke (2-3-2, 1-1-1) 20-7 during the contest, but mustered its only goal in the 68th minute when Avery Shepard scored for the second straight contest.  The setback was the Lakers' second straight 2-1 road loss following Wednesday's decision against Shorter University in Rome, Ga.

The Braves' first score came at 45:22 when Kevin Vigebo scored on a cross pass from teammate Brett Luccia.  The game's deciding score came at 48:23 when UNC Pembroke's Sam Miles scored on a free kick.

The Lakers return home Wednesday to face Montevallo (3-1-3, 0-0-2) in PBC action scheduled for a 5 p.m. kick off at Laker Field.  The Falcons are coming off a double-overtime tie against Francis Marion.
