Lakers fall to Shorter, 2-1

ROME, Ga. -- The Clayton State men's soccer team came up on the short end of a 2-1 loss at Shorter University on Wendnesday night at Ben Brady Field.  Avery Shepard scored the Lakers' lone goal of the contest in the 17th minute of the first half to tie the game.  Two minutes earlier, Shorter's Charlie Dennis scored the game's first goal.

The game's tie was short-lived as the Hawks' Irvin Espinal scored the game-winner 20 seconds following Shepard's fourth goal of the season.  Clayton State had a game-high 22 shots compared to the hosts' 14.  The Lakers got off 12 second half shots, but could not find the back of the net to tie the game.

Clayton State slips to 3-2-1 while Shorter earns its first win of the season to imporve to 1-5.  The Lakers travel to Pembroke, N.C. for an important Peach Belt Conference macth-up against UNC Pembroke.  The contest is schedule to kick off at 7:30 p.m.
